Joplin Man in Custody After Police Pursuit

A Joplin man is in custody after a shooting incident ended with a short police pursuit Monday night. Around 9:45 p.m., Joplin Police received a call of two shots fired behind a woman’s residence near the 1800 block of West 20th Street.

Officers arrived and searched for the suspect who had apparently left the scene in a van. Soon after, they spotted the vehicle driving down Maiden Lane with no headlights on. The suspect eventually got stuck in a ditch near 26th and McCoy and attempted to flee on foot but was unsuccessful.

34-year-old Waylon Durison was arrested for driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and 4th degree assault. Fortunately, no injuries occurred in the incident.
